GROWING ACTIVITIES My life as an artist stretches over a period of almost thirty-five years. On my website I present work from 1980 until the most recent works, which consist mainly of installations and site-specific works.    The structure and context expose a labyrinth of layers.  Ambiguity and diversity  seem to reveal no coherent line, but appearances are deceptive. After a certain period of time in which I switch among a specific series of interdisciplinary works, I start all over again to explore new challenges (‘after six month’s I got bored;’ Francis Picabia). I am not interested in a method of making art or repeating myself and getting lost in a system. I  try to avoid  inventing the wheel again and again. The flow of external influences, art as experiment, cause and effect: I create my own play-ground in which the results are not rigidly determined in advance and so surprise myself. In the later works the idiom of recycling, slow media (cinematography, photography, stereo-photography) and their diverse processes form the main issue in drawings, objects and installations. They can be seen to be opposite  the  attitude nowadays that  what was supposed to be new and innovative yesterday becomes  nostalgia or rubbish tomorrow and  can be simply thrown away. Everything must be fast, fast and faster, new images have to make place for the next Hype-O-Crises.  I become slower and slower which does  not mean that I am slow. This reference frame of chains and links is reflecting and meandering as a biographical red thread  through the context of the works

My immediate idea was to use this for a new project called ‘Slow Train to China’ that would follow my earlier work; ‘The Travelling Eye’, in progress since 1998. Omschrijving The installation is a moving spatial collage referring to time, space, past, present, re-use, decay and disappearance of a analogue visual culture. The blackbox shows a kaleidoscopic mix of mechanical apparatus of analogue photographic and cinematographic media which was designed and invented to capture, fix, freeze or project images. The work is an homage to Vilém Flusser (1920-1991), a Czech-born philosopher, writer and journalist.

Omschrijving 1e presentatie van het project ( in progress) 'Slow train to China ' Ongeveer anderhalf jaar geleden ben ik in het bezit gekomen van een complete in onbruik geraakte analoge Wild RC-10 Aviphot Aerial Camera uitrusting voor luchtfotografie plus handleidingen en technische tekeningen. Deze aanwinst bracht me vrijwel onmiddellijk op het idee om een nieuw project op te starten, getiteld : ‘Slow train to China’, dat naadloos aansluit op het werk “the Traveling Eye" (in progress sinds 1998) zie website: http://www.barneydekrijger.com.

Omschrijving The concept of post-mechanical visual culture plays an important role in my work and consists of establishing cross-connections and parallels between the old photographic and cinematographic media and new media. Based on the above context the installation "Le Bureau d'Illumination" (final cut) 2012  has been created as a tribute to cinema Dada.
