Ludmila Rodrigues explores movement and social collaboration by engaging the audience in playful actions. Ludmila choreographs the public in relation to the space and the materials. She composes situations where all visitors are involved. It is crucial they are engaged in a spontaneous, intuitive way. The tactile and the kinetic are the most visible aspects of her pieces, and the main transformation occurs 'inside' the body of the audience. In doing so she also questions who is the performer and who is the audience. Oscillating between seen and being seen, they discover the work together. The materials she chooses (elastic, fibers, metal, wood) are means for suggesting the touch and interaction, allowing the body to sense, pull and stretch; or rest, in a social context. Games, instructions and talks can as well accompany her pieces, for inspiring and coordinating the action. By becoming active, the audience is completely immersed in new relations. In her works she can perform or act as the catalyst. Her interest towards the physical, social experience, is in defense of the embodied knowledge inherent to us all. She approaches human perception as a combined process of the senses with the world. Her academic thesis, The Body of The Audience, addresses phenomenological and sociologic aspects of artistic experience.
