Omschrijving Photographic documentation of the studio was printed onto wearable fabrics. For studio based artists the atelier is the purest site where works are created, once the work leaves the studio, galleries, museums effectively degrade this purity. Daniel Buren (b.1938) elaborated on this problem in his seminal essay 'The Function of the Studio' - 1971. he documentation I had been archiving eventually found it's unlikely home in the regimes of Fashion, something I would not ordinarily approach. Fashion then became another medium and the access to newer printing technologies meant that the documentation I had amassed could be put to another use. Fashion whether or not it is everyday or 'haute couture' is functional and the parallel between this and the function of the studio became an interesting possibility for me. The idea meant delegation and liaising with a designer via a printing company specializing in wearable fabrics. The designs themselves are basic, they reference the 60's mini dress, the evening dress and club/disco wear. The wearer then displays the image of the studio in it’s most elemental rawest state. The studio migrates from its original site via the language of photography, performance and sculpture into the world. A result of this is that registration of the work comes close to a kind of ‘invisible theatre’ in that the spectacle of performance is given a broader platform to activate itself on. ‘If clothing covers our mutual nakedness, then the cruelty of photography exposes it’.

Omschrijving Exploring the nature of the institutional body and how language as base material can resemble or approximate the corporeal body, the patch paintings aggressively conflate language with simple repetitions, they are emblematic of institutions under a perpetual state of internal and external political pressures. Despite the seeming nihilism of the work, the use of patches appear like coping mechanisms.

Jaartal 2016
Omschrijving The role of first person narrative in my work stems from the public encounter, the nature of the encounter is bound up with a direct experience that is only noticeable because it breaks or ruptures the normal flow of everday events. Initially a repulsion is triggered, one that is not disimilar to an erotic stimulus. That the experience takes place of its own volition in the public sphere, unscripted, unfettered, uninstitutionalized is part of the parasitical attraction. The ‘reporting’ of these events gives space for those public eruptions or anomalies to be considered as invisible performances without recourse to scripting, or fixing them under the rubric of ‘live events’ and ‘performance art‘. Something public becomes private then becomes public again.
