Omschrijving werk

Natuur, herinnering, herkenning, monumentaliteit, beeld, praktisch, noodzaak, betekenis.

Titel Untitled (Work in progress)
Jaartal 2016
Omschrijving (Untitled) is a body of work based on a trip I made from the Netherlands to Georgia and back, of about three and a half months by car. At this trip I crossed 18 countries, in each one of them spend- ing a different variety of time. During this trip I investigated the value of my presence at all the different places I passed by. I did this by collecting all of the receipts that were given to me during the trip, from the beginning on. From the beginning of the trip on I collected all of the receipts that were given to me. These small, worthless pieces of paper formed a consistent trace of all the places I went to. They were results of all of the brief interactions that took place; small imprints of my presence at the certain place at a certain moment. Using Polymer printing, an old photographic etching technique that is nowadays still mainly used by the media, I highlighted the small signs, marks and symbols of all of the receipts. The resulting ob- jects depict the mysterious character of the receipts, with it’s constantly changing codes, languages and symbols.

Omschrijving The drawings ‘Surfaces’ show depictions of the Spanjaardshof, a building in the centre of the Hague, dating from 1880. This building was used as a nursing home until 1975 and since 1980 houses about 40 studio spaces of artists. For the open day in 2015 the people of the Spanjaardshof invited a number of young artists to make an exhibition in the whole building except in the studio spaces themselves, so hallways, elevators, corridors, etcetera. I used the building as my own studio for one month, making drawings of details I found throughout the building. In the end I placed these drawings in a moldy, long out of use elevator space at the top of the building, so the drawings again intertwined with the building.

The Hills of Capernaum
Titel The Hills of Capernaum
Jaartal 2014
Omschrijving “What is worth more - A kilogram of stone or a kilogram of gold?” This question by archi- tect Adolf Loos inspired Rixt de Boer to investigate the value of materials and objects. In the performance ‘The Hills of Capernaum’ De Boer focuses on bread, an everyday object that has been consumed by men for ages. During the performance she is repeatedly making bread, after which she photographs each loaf with a polaroid camera, to obtain an immediate and unique result. This repetitive act results in a growing collection of photographs. During the performance the value and meaning of this bread changes from food into a sculptural object. The title of the performance refers on one side to the associative character of abstract im- ages, on the other side it refers to the famous biblical story of the miracle of the five loaves and two fishes, which supposedly took place by the lake of Capernaum in Israël.

Het was een expositie waarin het werk proces van de kunstenaar een grote rol speelde.
