Omschrijving werk

Jannis Karalis is a Greek artist and interactive media designer based in The Hague, Netherlands. He works with a wide variety of media, ranging from poetry to programming. The main focus of his work, however, has been on interactive installations and audio/visual projects. Karalis focuses on human nature, the relations between people and those between people and society. His work leads his audience into subjects such as birth, death, sexuality and violence, often without imposing a linear narrative. Art and design are used as tools to gain and transfer knowledge and to expand or alter both perception and consciousness of the audience. Everything stems from the concept and the ideas that are sought to be conveyed; the medium is secondary.

Omschrijving On Friday December 16th The Symphony Orchestra of the Royal Conservatoire of the Netherlands played ‘Die Walküre’ (act 1) by Richard Wagner, at the concert hall ‘De Vereeniging’ in Nijmegen. Students from different departments of the Royal Academy of Art were invited by the Royal Conservatoire to provide visuals during this live performance. We designed a screen consisting of 68 pieces of transparent cloth (400x20 cm), hanging in four layers above the orchestra. By projecting on this cloth we created visuals giving the illusion of depth. Animations were played at key moments of the performance. I designed the intro (storm motif). Concertgebouw de Vereeniging‬, Nijmegen, Netherlands
