Omschrijving werk

Using engraving as a departure point (in particular relief printing) I mobilize several artistic techniques around social contemporary topics. I believe that art has an important role to play in the development of a critical thinking in society and that is why my artistic projects always involve working with the local population. In Africa, where I lived from 2008 to 2015, I co-developed several artistic projects involving children, adults, artists, NGOs. Those interactions have been a source of inspiration and a motivation. Must of my art work is part or a result of a long term process of interaction that involve performances, street workshops, community projects, etc. Many of my projects and oeuvres have been made in interaction with RUDEK, with whom I form an artistic couple since 2002. My approach is based on the assembly of scenes of daily life, searching for the voluntary/involuntary interaction between people in the same space (the crowd is a recurrent topic in my work). The result images work as memory tools, rescuing daily life moment and people from oblivion. The viewer has its own way to interact with my images, mobilizing his/her own souvenirs and thoughts. This is also a fundamental part of our work. That is also why many of our projects consider bringing back the art work to the place of inspiration. RUDEK’s art work deal with the individual. It is precisely around the tension between the individual and the masses where our common work is positioned.
