This presentation is a reflection on the bodily experience of the person presenting in relation to coloniality. The person presenting follows Paola Bacchetta’s suggestion proposed by an earlier generation of Feminists and Queers of Color that “No one is a neutral subject and that one should always situate oneself in relation to the topic of one’s discourse.”

Harmony Hammond wrote about "The Giant Series": "In Giant (2), a movie poster-size color photograph, Hazekamp copies her 2001 version of the same image. In a kind of drag on drag, she performs herself performing actor James Dean as depicted in the movie's poster. The focus is on the awkward figure held in suspension. An ongoing project, Hazekamp hopes to make another version every eight years or so, thereby claiming and transforming the image through repetition."

Serie van 20 analoge foto's. Risk Hazekamp followed the 1959 route of the (white) American writer J. H. Griffin, who in his in 1960 published book "Black Like Me" reports of his travels as a black man (with help of medicine, UV light and make-up) through the Deep South. Hazekamp projected this subversive idea on the Gender theme and traveled not as a woman, but as a man.

"The Great Depression" is based on Walker Evans' photos of white cotton tenants made in Alabama in 1936. It is about the similarities between the 30-ies and now: financial crises, economic recession, but also similarities in nature: extreme long dry periods in time.

2018SOCIAL DISSOLUTION OF THE WEST Pennings Foundation Eindhoven, Nederland Social Dissolution of the West is inspired by a romantic episode that took place during Hazekamp’s childhood years. She follows the route of her uncle and aunt, who first met each other during the Olympic Games of 1968 in Mexico City. They were both participating for the Dutch Olympic team, he rowing the Eight for Holland, she a platform diver. Mexico City 1968. The city was afire. Ten days before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, student protests ended in a bloodbath. This tragic event still determines the social and political landscape of Mexico. The parallel lives of the Mexican students and the Dutch athletes could not have been of greater contrast. The project concentrates on the reversal of perspectives. It poses questions about the position of the person watching and the person being watched. Are we able to recognize the limitation of our own views? Are we able to think outside the narrative that is presented to us? How can we, today, understand the Olympic Games of 1968 from the perspective of decolonisation? What exactly happened when the Olympic flame was taken from “Old Europe" to its former colony Mexico and the organizing committee decided that “the torch should follow the course of Columbus's first voyage to The New World"? www.penningsfoundation.com/risk-hazekamp Solo

2015THERE IS ANARCHY IN OUR MIDST SEA Foundation Tilburg, Nederland Besides analogue black and white photography Hazekamp uses other media in this presentation such as collage, drawing, sculpture and video. There is Anarchy in our Midst stems from the residency of Hazekamp in the heart of The Dust Bowl, in Boise City, Oklahoma Panhandle and draws a parallel between the 1930’s of the last century and the present. Risk emphasizes in her presentation the repetitive nature of time, forming a ‘time loop’ in which past, present and future mix with each other. She poses the argument that Nature and Economics go hand in hand. www.seafoundation.eu/risk-hazekamp/ Solo
