A practice of listening and following as a counter method against shaming, splaining, patronizing, ignoring, and physical and non-physical violence

My recent practice has been engaged with social zones in which communication has been cancelled or at least has become difficult. I am thinking of zones in which one side claims that freedom of speech has been taken away from them, whereas the other side marks whom should be talked and listened to, and whom not. I am interested in filmic documentation and the act of filming itself in order to access these spaces. In the film "We´ll have time for that later" which I´m currently working on, I am experimenting with taking and giving up lead in order to document three prepper´s self and world perception. By following their directions, their concept of me becomes visible and readable in the way my body moves in the frame of the camera. The film also sounds out, how holding the camera can be entitling and disabling at the same time. Whereas I see my earlier film "How much cost basic needs?" as a more conventional documentarist approach, my ongoing prepper investigation rather enacts an encounter that would not take place outside of the film. Holding the camera or being in front of it becomes my way of listening to accounts I did not know before, of overstepping the frames they build for me, of misfitting camouflaged backgrounds, of following directions that I usually carefully avoid. The physical act of moving into personal spaces is a counter approach to the mere verbal exchanges that regularly take place in online comment sections, in which divisioning lines are easily drawn and assaults easily made.
