Based on practical craftsmanship, existential philosophy, wordplay, and a dark sense of humor. My curiosity lies in the balance between meaningfulness and total meaninglessness; between psychedelically silly and beautifully serious. I work in a broad variety of materials such as autonomous paintings in acrylic and sculptures in fabric, papier-mâché, ceramics, and also
graphic design in an on-and-off manner. I envision my work to be intellectually stimulating, fun, or weird as a first reaction, but with a heavy aftertaste of the internal struggles we all seem to share.
While creating I scribble down fast impulsive thoughts, I play with associations through metaphors while I listen to podcasts, music, and lectures about psychology, philosophy, and comedy. This creates a large pool of ideas and realizations. I then work on finding out what the work is really about, undressing it til there is only one piece left. The final outcome is usually one object hopefully containing glimpses of it all.

--Overrompelende expo in Het Hem: van mensenratten tot straathonden, helaas alleen via livestream Het Parool Jan Pieter Ekker Nederland www.parool.nl/kunst-media/overrompelende-expo-in-het-hem-van-mensenratten-tot-straathonden-helaas-alleen-via-livestream~bb7b6570/ Karin Kytökangas (KABK Den Haag) hing een enorm gordijn in de gigantische ruimte, dat zachtjes heen en weer deint omdat erachter een ventilator staat te draaien. Het doet denken aan Show IX, Curtain Room (1965) van Marinus Boezem, maar diens gordijnen waren wit, en op dat van Kytökangas staat een patroon gevormd door ontelbare keren ‘ha ha’ onder en naast elkaar.
